Your Morning Tidbit -- New Book Releasing today! (And why you'll want to read it.)
So, I'm super excited today. Why? Well, for one, it's FRIDAY!!! WOO HOO!
But also, because Book 5 of the Portrait of an Unlikely Affair series goes live today on Kindle and in Paperback. It's title is "Project Broken Glass" and it looks like this:
I know I've quietly released books 2, 3, and 4 without showing much excitement (I was super excited about each one! Each one feels like sending a child out into this world.) So what makes Project Broken Glass different?
Well, for one, I genuinely thought it was the LAST book in this series.
The series finale!
And it was.
Until about a week and a half ago.
This book kept growing and growing until I had to face the realization that a 600 or so page book is a bit much to read, even though it really didn't seem like it...The story really moved fast, like a wildfire in California, and it grew as fast as one as well. Splitting this novel did allow me to get this part of the story out to you sooner as it was basically ready to publish. But why am I so excited about this book? Well, because I know what is coming for you, and I know you're going to love it.
So, let's talk Portrait of an Unlike Affair, the novel, um trilogy, uh, 4, no 5, I mean 6 book series. I introduced Portrait of an Unlikely Affair, book 1 here. Then I did a Beyond the Sample here. Recently I did an Author Commentary on it here. I also introduced book 2, The Legend of CùSithGrim here. I haven't introduced books 3 or 4 yet, but we have tons of time to do that.
But why should I make the commitment to read YOUR series?
Because you'll like it. Because it will surprise you. Because it will grab you and haunt you. Because you'll have to know how it all turns out.
OK, Em, those reasons are fine and everything, but WHAT is this series about? Why would I even like it?
Let's see. Well, I mix some romance, some thrilling mystery, some dysfunctional family drama, plain ol' drama, some man stuff, some womanly wiles, some bad guys, and a little bit of science fiction while adding a heaping scoop of wild imagination then shook it all together to tell a story that has been rattling around in my brain for decades. The story had come into existence like a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle, all mixed together and upside down. None of it was written in the order that you see them together today. Bits of the books were written in my younger years, parts in my twenties, a little more in my thirties, and the rest of it recently and then all stitched together in an order that is given to you little by little.
Em, you're avoiding the question.
I'm not avoiding the question, I am simply drawing the answer out. This series is about a young man who is not your average young man because of his childhood and his profession. And this series is about this young woman who has lived a privileged life very different from his. They aren't supposed to meet but by chance they do. It then follows the two of them.
Em, you're describing Billy Joel's Uptown Girl song plot as well as the plot of a lot of Hallmark movies.
That's a fair observation, and Uptown Girl is a great general rhythm song to dance to (in case you wondered), but in Portrait of an Unlikely Affair, the young man has a rare terminal disease and the young woman has means to help him. Of course, then we have a bad guy who has an obsession with heads on sticks and a secret military hidden in plain sight, and some weird mysterious stuff going on with that. We also have the drama of the differences of their two different worlds and even some memory loss going on about a battle that was a slaughter. We also have a father with tons of guilt, a wicked stepmother, and a jealous ex. Oh, yeah, and then there's a best friend who gives wise counsel. This is just in book 1!
And you wrote SIX books about them?
I did. Book 1 just starts the roller coaster ride. It's that part of the roller coaster where you are just leaving the station and starting the climb up the track. I tell you, by the time you finish this series, you'll be wanting them (whomever 'they' are) to make a movie series or TV series out of them just so you can enjoy them again. Of course, there is no harm in re-reading the entire series. Heck, I wrote them and I still re-read them.
But SIX books Em?
Oh, wait, I forgot about the "support" novel with The Allegheny Chronicles. I guess I actually wrote seven books for the Portrait series. I'm kinda glad how that worked out. Seven is a better number than six.
SEVEN books?!
Yes. I can hardly believe it myself! I don't want to ruin anything for you about the series so I'll just say that Book 2 introduces you to the young man's past, while showing in the present what the young woman is made of; all the while giving you more enticing drama. You meet new characters here, too. Book 3 brings more fun characters and a situation that would make anyone stare at it like a train wreck. Book 4 continues the gawking, jaw dropping ride by bringing even more characters in, with new situations and then book 5....Oh boy.. Book 5.... Wow. Buckle up for Book 5. Just when you thought you faced the wildest part of the roller coaster... Book 5 happens.
Now I'm intrigued. what's the order of the series again?
Book 1 is Portrait of an Unlikely Affair
Book 2 is Legend of CùSithGrim
Book 3 is The Ghost of Oscar
Book 4 is Embers to Ashes
Book 5 is Project Broken Glass
And book 6 is The Disruption of Forever and is slated to be released on January 15, 2023. It is available for Pre-Order on Kindle.
And we can't forget The Allegheny Chronicles: Eden and the Alchemist as the unofficial book 7 of the series. It is considered a "support" book of the series even though it *technically* doesn't require you having to have read the series in order to read it. But you'll want to add it to your list just the same (oh yeah, you won't want to miss this one.) You can even start with it, if you wanted to. It's up to you. I introduced it here, gave the first Beyond the Sample here, and an Author Commentary here. And, if you're subscribed to Kindle Unlimited, it is free for you until January 7, 2023.
Wow. Can't wait to start!
I do have a fair warning for you if you're going to start the series -- You're going to laugh, you're going to cry, you may even do that ugly cry. You'll want to be friends with some of them, you'll get emotionally involved, and you'll want to start a book club JUST so you can discuss the characters, and their plight, with real people. Oh, and you're going to want to stock up on tissue. And maybe alcohol. Seriously. And then you'll think about how awesome the series would be to watch them as a movie or TV series because you have your own movie playing in your mind as you read.
And you will want to reread them because, yes, they will haunt you.
Really.
Just ask those who have read them.
It's totally worth starting this series. You won't regret it. Seeing these novels come to life in published form, shareable with you, was worth every moment of the 30+ years it took me in writing them. I'm wow'd each time I hear how readers get excited about them, too.
Anyhow, I'll let you go on that note. If you have any questions or comments at all, by all means, let me know! I'm not scary (well, at least I don't think I am 🤔) and I will respond to you (writers do love to write.) If you enjoy reading these little blurbs, enjoy reading my novels, or just enjoy life, be sure to share those thoughts with your friends. If they like to read, I just may have some books for them to enjoy. Also, thank you for letting me know what you think in your reviews on Amazon!!😍
Thanks for stopping by and hanging out with me today. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day and have a great weekend!!💕
