Introducing The Allegheny Chronicles - Eden and the Alchemist

Happy Friday!

Welcome to our fourth installment of Fun Fact Friday, or Your Morning Tidbit (if you are on those other platforms.) Last week I introduced you to my "big" series and my oldest characters with Portrait of an Unlikely Affair.  You can always scroll down on the feeds to catch those, or check out the Archives on Blogspot to catch up.

Today, I'll introduce you to a story that my Portrait series spawned -- The Allegheny Chronicles - Eden and the Alchemist. If you aren't sure about committing to a five book series just yet or are on the fence about the Portrait of an Unlikely Affair AND you feel that the Cedar Grove series with ballroom dancers isn't quite for you right now, then I'd suggest you start out with The Allegheny Chronicles. You can't go wrong with it.

Let's look at the description as found on Amazon:

Eden Halifax Magnuss lost her husband in a military helicopter crash while he was deployed overseas. Just before the seventh anniversary of her husband's death, she is chosen for a seemingly easy assignment to 'babysit' a teen prodigy while he receives training with a mysterious mentor known only as "the Alchemist," a solitary figure who is only spoken of in rumors at work.

Eden is warned of the Alchemist's cantankerous manner, but is told that the Alchemist may hold the answers to the crash that killed her husband. But what could a mystical mountain dwelling hermit possibly know about something that happened a world away from him?

Eden's adventure into the strange world of the Alchemist is just the beginning of an unexpected journey of a lifetime.

OK, sounds mysterious and exciting, right? Lots of questions to be answered. When this book became available on Amazon, I told you that this is not simply a "chick-flick" book despite the cover. It is for everyone, including manly-men who would never get caught dead reading a romance book. This book has it all -- romance, mystery, sci-fi, murder, intrigue, and warfare. It's a book for everyone who likes watching "exciting" TV shows.

Trivia Break -- I love old black and white movies. Not only are they done with iconic lines, wardrobes, humor and actual wit, what I admire most about the movies from the 1930s and 1940s is the fact that they leave something for the imagination. These days, movies and TV often leave nothing to the imagination. Senseless scenes that do nothing to add to the plot are thrown in for ratings. Even books go way too far. (Just browse the covers of some of those kindle books. You'll see. Are they written for the storyline itself or are they written as voyeurism?) I realize there are some authors out there who go to great length creating scenes, with lots of adjectives to describe passionate acts that I don't need to know about. After I've read such scenes that appear unexpectedly in a book, it leaves me to wonder if I can get those wasted moments of my life back. When I happen upon it in books, I just scan and move on, but as an author, I know that is not what writers want you to do. With my writing, even though I label my novels as "romance," I'll leave things to your imagination as I'm sure you have an excellent one.  Now back to the introduction...

The Author's Note in the beginning of this novel tells you why I wrote it. All I was trying to do was edit Portrait series Book 3, The Ghost of Oscar, and this story popped out. As I've told you many times before, I'm often just as surprised with my writing as you are reading it for the first time.

The Allegheny Chronicles -- Eden and the Alchemist was a fun book for me to write. It fell in place so easily, the characters showed up out of the blue, and it was such a wild ride that I do find myself being drawn into it reading over again randomly, still being sucked into their world. It's the book I keep on the little table beside my spot on the sofa, just so I can pick it up and read it. It is an addictive story and the characters really do come off the page. At first, I thought it would be about ten pages long, but it wound up being over 200 pages! It purposely drops you right into the middle of a story as it is supposedly a fictional book series and TV series in my fictional series. You jump into it feet first, having to gain your bearings with seemingly established characters (kind of like catching a later episode of a TV series with four seasons already.) As to whether or not there will be other Allegheny Chronicles books, I'm curious too. I'll have to see what voluntarily shows up. It would be an intriguing series to write, especially after finishing up the Portrait series.

The Allegheny Chronicles is often my family's "introduction" to my writing. Family members who haven't read anything of my writing before have started with this book, even the men, and are both surprised and excited about it. It will stick with you. (I'd personally love to see the right person make it a movie or mini series. But one step at a time. Let's get people reading it, first.)

I could go on but I don't want to give any spoilers because everyone knows that one person who has read or seen something before you and then keeps saying, "Oh, the good part is coming up!" or "You're going to hate this" or anything like that, so I'll just end this here for today so I don't become that person. Just give it a shot and let me know how it goes for you. Grab a sample or the whole book on Kindle. If you subscribe to Kindle Unlimited, it's free to read until January! If you prefer paperback, no problem, I've got you covered there, too!

Thanks for stopping by and hanging out with me today. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day and have a great weekend!!💕
