 Meet Mason Beaudrie. Mason has not had the easiest life but he has made the best of it. He arrived in Veil Falls to live with his grandparents after his father was deployed in 2002. That was when he met his two best friends -- Gia Bennington and Lexi Kessler. He hadn't expected to stay in Veil Falls long, but life has a way of not going the way Mason wants it to. He grew up as platonic best friends, graduated and followed his father's footsteps into the Marine Corps. As nothing was waiting for him at home, he was going to make his life in the military. Ten years later, Mason is unexpectedly back home, adjusting to the civilian life, his outlook on life jaded. 

Gia Bennington knew from the first day she met Mason in the fifth grade that they'd be good friends. As a new kid to Veil Falls herself, she was unlike her classmates as she had been born and raised in France and travelled Europe with her family. When Mason attempted to use her native language to talk to her, she felt as if she'd known him always. Unfortunately, in Veil Falls, the Benningtons do not mix with Beaudries. Keeping Mason in her life meant keeping life strictly platonic. After graduation, she attended college, allowing forensic science to become her life. After graduation, her first year at the forensic lab, she meets the man whom she considers the love of her life. She planned on happily ever after with this State Trooper but once again, life has other plans.
