Tuesday Trivia --Embers to Ashes

We are just hours away from the huge decision that I made to become a published author. As I have mentioned before, putting your creations out there, for other to people see, is a bit intimidating. Will it be positively accepted? Will it tank? Will nobody buy it? What if they do and it sucks? What if it is so chalked-full of errors and mistakes people just hate it? What if they just hate it just because?

Well, folks, I'm here to tell you that if you've grown up with siblings, you've already survived the worst of critiques and criticism and there's not much you haven't heard that's new. Really. My oldest brother once told me, when I found he had been going through my computer files, "If you don't want other people to read them, don't write it down." Of course, relentless teasing pursued as they laughed at my writing. But hey, if you can overcome the fear of rejection and learn how to listen to criticism while letting it roll off you like water on duck feathers, you've already got what it takes to be a published author!!

We have been discussing the Portrait of an Unlikely Affair series. I had intended it be a single novel...then okay, two books....Oh hey, a trilogy! But then something happened. Embers to Ashes was originally shaking out to be a single novel to follow the next generation of Ridleys. And then it decided to go a direction I didn't know existed so I just followed it.

Em's Author Tip: If a story is flowing from your fingers, and it's not going where YOU want it to, just keep writing and see where it goes. You may be surprised and you can always go back and edit it later.

In some ways, I suppose you can say that the Portrait of an Unlikely Affair series is actually TWO trilogies. You have Portrait of an Unlikely Affair, The Legend of CuSithGrim, and The Ghost of Oscar taking place in the mid to late 1990s. And then you have the results of those first three books coming back around in the second set of three, beginning with Embers to Ashes. Embers to Ashes was released on Amazon on November 1, 2022. It is also my thickest book because there was so much happening in it. So many twists and turns. I like Embers to Ashes because you get to see what a "fairy tale" turns into. In some ways it's like meeting an old friend you haven't seen in 20 years and catching up. These final three novels kicks things up a notch, introduces a wider range of thinking, and lets you see Brian and Avonlea operate when a whole new set of challenges hit them. This book is where it all powers back up so buckle up.
