Hi everyone! Happy Tuesday. I hope you are having a wonderful week. I still can't believe it -- over 100 books sold at Amazon since I began at the end of September 2022 and over 5,100 pages read on the Kindle Unlimited program. I am excited, yet humbled.
Wow.
So, let's get into this today while I can find some words. I received my paperback proof copies for my first five books that I have on the Barnes and Noble website. I have put the ones on sale that I am able to, however, it's taking others a lot longer to get the paperback on there.
For instance: Along the Way can be found here in ebook form, but the paperback format says it's "still publishing."
Wherever It Goes can be found here in both ebook and paperback. (Let me tell you, the back cover for the B&N paperback is pretty.)
For whatever reason, the paperback version of Portrait of an Unlikely Affair is "still publishing." 🤷
The Legend of CùSithGrim (book 2) is totally available in both paperback and ebook here.
The Ghost of Oscar (book 3) is lagging on the paper back sale (it's being processed for sale, or so it says) but the ebook is available here.
So how do the B&N copies of the paperbacks compare to the Amazon copies?
Well, for one, they arrived so much sooner to me than the ones from Amazon do, so that a huge bonus. The interiors are both the same.
The only difference is how they look. So, let me do some comparison here for you, side by side.
OK, let's begin. Obviously, the formatting has made a difference. But which do you prefer better? The black/white spine lettering or the gray/white spine lettering? Alright, let's look at the first cover:
On Along the Way -- You can't quite see it in the picture, but in real life, her dress is white on the Amazon cover, but is slightly grayish green on the B&N cover. I kinda like it.
Wherever It Goes -- It translated very well for both of them. The difference is the back and spine -- the B&N back cover and spine are a softer green/gray.
Portrait of an Unlikely Affair. The title is smaller on the B&N cover because of how the formatting had to be on the PDF.
OK, on this one I had to take the picture inside because the cover was too glossy for outside. The Amazon cover is more vibrant. I'm not sure why.
And here again, the glossy cover had me take this inside. the B&N one is more gray than smoky.
The paper the books are printed on is the same, however, the copies from Amazon are heavier, and thicker, than the copies from Barnes and Noble.

So, the all boils down to one thing: Which seller you prefer to purchase from. It is still the same awesome stories in the same amazing books. Some are just accustomed to going to Amazon for everything. Then you have those who don't like the monopoly Amazon seems to be so they choose to spend their money at other retailers. Some people are more comfortable buying from Barnes and Noble, and hopefully, someday soon, I'll have my books in their brick and mortar stores so people can practice the art of impulse buying my book, having the paperback in their hand while buying and reading it in the same day. I used to impulse buy at Barnes and Noble all the time. I'll get my books sold elsewhere, but I've got so much to learn ahead of me at the two retailers I have right now. I'll likely make the spines all the same color here in the next week as I figure out more formatting tricks.
OK, last week I mentioned ACR meaning Advanced Copy Readers -- Meaning I'll look for a small team of readers who are willing to read a copy before its published and give me feedback on it. I'm not saying edit the book for me, but to give me feedback on the book and possibly a review. I'm still looking into the logistics of how it all works but I'm thinking about it.
At this point, I'll let you go about your day. Thank you so much for hanging out with me today. If you have any questions, comments, or random statements, let me know!
