Beyond the Sample: Teaser Tuesday for Wherever It Goes
Now, in present day, here was Megan texting him, accusing him of ignoring her calls, video chats, and texts. Could she really blame him? He avoided opening the text, knowing she would know he read it, and managed to ignore it until he was home from work. He grabbed a cold beer from the fridge and sat down on the couch, staring first at the TV before he picked up his phone and dialed Angelina's number. It went to voicemail as he figured she was teaching so he hung up and then dialed Greg’s number. It rang a few times before Greg picked up.
“I swear it wasn’t me,” Greg answered.
“I have evidence that it was.”
“Bullshit,” Greg responded and in the background, Ryan could hear ballroom music.
“Are you hanging out at the ballroom now?” Ryan was both surprised and amused.
“Got a lesson with Mikki for their wedding. I’m currently watching Chris teach a class. It’s actually quite amusing. I wonder why I haven’t done this for entertainment sooner.”
“You lead an exciting life, Greg. I’m sitting here, drinking a nice cold beer.”
“That’s my plan for later. Sitting in your chair, watching your TV, and drinking your beer.” Greg replied.
“You mean there’s still beer left?”
“Well, it is in a keg under the bar and they keep delivering so I have to keep drinking it. It’s quite the quandary, really.”
Ryan grinned. "So how's it going?"
“Same. Your parents stopped by last night and your mom invited me to dinner this weekend. I figure if I play my cards right, I just might get them to adopt me.”
“Good luck with that. You know they are starting to pressure for grandchildren? Now they can work on you and I might get a break.”
“Oh, damn, forget it then. I can’t take that away from them. What’s up?”
“Just checking in. Seeing how things are. I guess Lina is teaching right now.”
“Yeah, she’s got a new student; a young muscle-bound guy with dimples that all the girls are swooning over. I think she has more attendance on her lesson than Chris does in his class. Her face is all red and blushing.”
“You ass,” Ryan grinned causing Greg to laugh so he said, “So, how long has Kenzie had you taking lessons?”
“Oh, a couple of weeks. She figures I’m going to be better than you since I am actually taking dance lessons.”
“I don’t have time for dance lessons.”
“Yeah, you only have your own personal dance teacher for 72 straight hours every week.”
“It’s less than 72 hours, and their wedding is always the furthest from my mind.”
“I wouldn’t think of them either,” Greg said as the music in the background faded and the sound of Chris’s voice echoed in the background now. Greg lowered his voice. “I’m getting weird looks from Chris at the moment. I’d better move our conversation. So, what, are you bored or something?”
“Nah, just puzzled. Megan keeps trying to get a hold of me.”
“What’s she want?”
“No clue. I figure if I don’t respond she will stop.”
“Or you could just answer her and find out what she wants.”
“If it was important, she would say what it was she wants.”
“And yet she keeps trying to get a hold of you,” Greg shrugged. “Just answer her the next time and find out. After all, you do have all the luck. First, you have a stripper for a stalker, and now a supermodel. It sounds like the makings of a first rate movie.”
“Horror movie, maybe,” Ryan sighed. “I see your point but I don’t even want Megan in my life. It ended and I am lucky to have escaped.”
“Hmmmm, so what I hear you saying is you really are over her.”
“I’d better let you go learn how to dance,” Ryan responded. “I think I’m going to finish my beer.”
“Ok, ok, rub it in. You want me to give your love to dear old Chris, your bestest buddy ever?”
“Sure, and make sure you quote me with the middle finger.”
“Will do. And do you want me to remind a certain female dance teacher of your existence after her hour with the muscle-bound heart throb?”
“I’m still not worried,” Ryan replied, although he did now wonder whether or not Angelina’s student was really a muscle-bound heartthrob or if Greg was just making it up. “Thanks for the advice.” They said their goodbyes and Ryan hung up. He looked at his text messages, opened the one from Megan up, rolled his eyes and responded.
